2nd 9 Weeks AR Party: Coraline

This nine weeks was the first in which students had individualized goals. 81 students met their average goal (85%) as well as their points goal. To celebrate, students were invited to a Coraline party held in the reception room. Students watched the animated film, ate freshly popped popcorn and enjoyed sweet tea donated by the local McDonalds. Students also enjoyed their goody bags filled with bagged popcorn, Twizzlers, movie chocolate, director's clapboard keychains, and Coraline button eyes! The students had a great time socializing and celebrating their accomplishments.

Blogging
Today I did a blogging class with Dr. Roundtree's students. They created a blog, make Voki avatars, and learned how to post.

Accelerated Reader party
Our first 9 weeks AR party was held on Friday, October 16. Ninety-eight students were invited to attend based on attaining the goal of 25 points and an 80% average. The students ate pizza and drank sweet tea during the Twilight-themed celebration. They received goody bags that included vampire teeth, faux bite tattoos, candy blood and bookmarks. McDonald's donated the tea and free hamburger coupon bookmarks. Special thanks go out to Ms. Gadson, Ms. Swinson, Ms. Walden and Ms. Rearley for their help during the event.

2009 LCSS Vendor Showcase
Today I attended the LCSS Vendor Showcase. This is an annual event held at the BOE. Several vendors attended the event to inform Media Specialists and technology folks about new projects and offerings from their companies. The Showcase also offered free training to those attending. I learned how to use Audacity, a voice recording program. I also learned about DIIGO, a social bookmarking site where you can add comments, sticky notes, and highlight text on websites. Then these websites are added to your bookmarks. The neatest thing I learned was how to blog! I think it will be a great way to keep everyone informed of what goes on in the Media Center on a daily basis.
